    Notes:

From THE ROSEMARY PICKETT PAPERS. Primary source is "Mulanax-Bales" by
Katherine and Alvin Mulanax, April, 1980. Book sources are various census of
1820, 1830 and 1850 and Greene Co., MO census of 1860. Also widow's pension
application of 2nd wife. Four correspondents who are also descendants are
listed. Joseph's occupation is listed as farmer, carpenter and miller.

War of 1812, Pvt., Infantry, 5th Rgt., Virginia Militia.

From "Mulanax and Bales" by Katherine and Alvin Mulanax, April, 1980, Joseph
and his families were part of the great migration westward to make homes in the
wilderness. From Virginia he pioneered in Clark Co., Ohio, then in Madison
Co., Indiana, and finally in Greene Co., Missouri where he lived until he died
in 1864 at the age of 69. Katherine and Alvin indicate Mullenax is French and
there is a town in France by the same name. The French spelling is Molyneux.
The last year that Joseph appears in Virginia is from the tax list of Pendleton
County in 1816. From Virginia he went to Clark County, Ohio where he married
Catherine Arbogast, who had migrated to Ohio with her family some years before.
Joseph first appears as head of a family in the 1820 census of Pleasant
Twp., Clark Co. and appears there again in the 1830 census. Sometime after
1830, Joseph, his family and relatives migrated to Madison Co., Indiana. David
Arbogast, Catherine's uncle, also migrated to Madison Co., IN about this same
time. On 13 Jun 1833, records show Joseph purchased land near Anderson,
Madison Co. The land was close to Moss Island in the White River just west of
Anderson. In 1836 Joseph built the Moss Island Mill and operated as a miller
for many years. The Mills were consumed by fire in 1873. Joseph is not on the
1840 census and is thought to be enroute to Greene Co., Missouri at the time.

For marriage to Mary Ann Davis and family see #4729 in Joseph's line as son of
    Mary Arbogast and James Mullenax.

Joseph married Catherine (Kate) Arbogast about 1818 in Clark Co., Oh. Catherine (daughter of Michael Arbogast and Barbara Buzzard) was born in in Va; died in 1835 in Madison Co., In. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Rosemary Pickett a descendant has done extensive research in and around Clark
Co., OH and from her home over several years has provided well documented
family group records for Michael, Jr. and each of his children. On the son,
George, Rosemary's data was augmented by research of Theodore B. James who is
descended from George's daughter Annie Eliza and research of Margaret Sievers,
National DAR # 527614 who is descended from George's son, James Henry Arbogast.
On the son, Eli McKinley, all of the research is by Rosemary since this is her
line and includes this line of her ancestors as well as her own descendants.
Children listed may not be in order of birth. Rosemary cites, Portraits and
Biographies Album of Greene and Clark Counties, Ohio, Vols. I & II, Chapman
Bros., Chicage, 1890, as a source and extracted the text pointing out the error
that all of Michael's children were not born in Ohio and he came to Ohio prior
to 1816. Rosemary's work may be referred to hereafter as THE PICKETT PAPERS.

Other sources cited by Rosemary Pickett are: Clark Co., OH Marriage Records
    (researched 4 Apr 1991).

    death, and names of parents.

Ardath L. Brown of Covington, GA. cites "Buzzard - Alt" book, p. 110 as

"Mulanax - Bales" by Katherine and Alvin Mulanax, April 1980, p. 83, indicates

boys and and two girls, all under the age of 25.
