    Confirmation from Arlene (Channell) Swecker family group record on Moses and
    Margaret. Arlene notes that Moses died of cancer at the home of his daughter,
    Eva Jane Channell, near Valley Head, WV. He became ill while in jail for
    shooting Jefferson Simmons. Moses and Margaret had four children before they
    married. Margaret died when her daughter Margaret Alice was born. The
    children were raised by friends and relatives and were never close. Moses, Sr.
    was married to Margaret's mother so they were living in same household for
    some time. This area was in the mountains near Valley Head, not too far from
    Swecker Ridge. Jefferson Simmons is a brother of Chesley Simmons who married
    Moses' sister, Sarah Elizabeth Arbogast.

    According to Jean (Snyder) Loudin, the family blamed Jefferson Simmons saying
    he caused the shooting by Moses. If Moses had only shot him once he would have
    been acquitted, but the fatal second shot was the reason for his conviction.

    Pendleton Co. census 1820, Randolph Co. census 1830 & 1860, Randolph Co. death record & Pendleton Co. marriage record 21 Oct. 1819 to Elizabeth Zickafoose who had been previously married to Elias Zickafoose. Married (2) to Margaret Wamsley 25 Oct. 1834, Randolph Co. marriage record, who died 11 Dec 1853, Randolph Co. death record. Married (3) Matilda Ware in 1854 (1860 Randolph Co. census) and listed as wife on her tombstone. Married (4) Eleanor Ellen (Ware) Channel, widow of Jesse Channel, 11 Sep 1865 in Randolph Co. marriage records. Eleanor died 19 Apr 1886 per Randolph Co. death records. It is thought that Moses had a fifth wife according to family tradition, however we have not been able to find verifiable proof to include the fifth wife.

    Moses moved from Pendleton to Randolph County before 1830 according to census
    reports and was living there in 1860. Died 26 Mar. 1869, Randolph Co. death
    record. No grave marker.

    Moses as son and heir to father John Arbogast, Pendleton Co. deed book 14, p.
    173.

    Birth records seem to indicate several children were born to the union of Moses
    and Matilda Ware.
