    Date of birth is from a tombstone and obituary which correspond with census
    records, but family bible indicates 1837. However, on all census records he is
    listed as two years older than his wife. John W. was Sheriff of Highland Co.
    from 1879 to 1890. He was a bugler in the Civil War, A Co., 14th VA Cav., CSA.

    The Crabbottom area of Pendleton Co., VA became part of Highland Co., VA when
    it was created in 1847. Daniel's exact birth date is unknown, estimated from
    census records. He served in war of 1812 as a private in Capt. Jesse Hinkle's
    Company of VA Militia, enlisting August, 1814 for six months at Norfolk, VA and
    discharged there on 6 Nov., 1914. Widow's application (Sarah Arbogast) for
    bounty land, Dec., 1850. Bounty Land File 51371 and file 189510. Date of
    Daniel's death is from this application.

    Family record sheet in possession of the late Edith Swecker, Crabbottom, and
    indicates Sept. 16th as birth date while Rader Church baptismal record
    indicates Sept. 15th. Sarah's death is recorded in Highland Co., VA. She died
    from cholera. Sarah and Daniel lived on a farm purchased by her parents in
    1815 which is adjacent to property of her brother Benjamin Swecker. In 1990,
    the farm was owned by Carl Arbogast's widow. Sarah was not in 1850 census.

    Married once, remained in the community where his father settled near the
    village of Crabbottom, Pendleton Co., VA/WV, now Blue Grass, Highland Co., VA.
    His place probably abutted the lands of his father and brother, Michael. It
    may be possible that he lived 2-3 miles from his fathers home, on Franks Run.
    His son, Daniel, lived at this location. Carl Arbogast, son of Abraham
    Arbogast lived there in 1971, per Amanda Forbes. Had 9 children.

    Deed of heirs filed in Pendleton Co., 1844 gives names of children. Died
    intestate. His dates are from a family bible in possession of Larry Roberts.
    Bible was kept by Emanuel or some of his family who went to Illinois.

    Records of daughter, Mary, indicate Michael had two wives. Considering all
    available information, Mary was probably his first wife, Elizabeth his second.

    I, p. 161.

    Records of Dr. Dunham indicate the possibility of another son, Joseph, b. 1769
    based on information from tax records, d. 1820 based on information in Morton's
    Pendleton Co. History. The Peter Arbogsast who married Henry Arbogast's daughter also not placed.

    "Take Wimer Mountain road from Blue Grass, at the intersection with Hardscrabble road, continue north on Wimer Mountain, go approximately 3/10 mile. On the left will be a pond. The two rocks marking the graves are on the right side of the road. The graves sit almost in the fence row, if the grass is high its difficult to see them from the road. "
