Additional information and confirmation from THE ROSEMARY SUMMERS PICKETT
PAPERS citing "20th Century HIstory of Springfield and Clark County, Ohio" by
Wm. A. Rockel, 1908 on the first nine children given to the writer by the son,
William H. Hardman. Rosemary reports on three possible additional children
named Henry, Margaret (m. 1873 to John Cylvester Ralster and d. 1922) and
Callie who married James C. Leechman. These possible additional three children
are from Patricia McSherry of New Orleans who says in her letter to Rosemary on
18 June 1991 - "My ancestor Margaret has a question mark because I can't find
her on a census, etc. Found a lot re Wesley thru court records. (He is listed
as a brother in Margaret's obituary. He is dead and had no children from three
marriages. Jonathan W. or W. Jonathan Hardman/Herdman moved his family thru at
least six Ohio counties between 1824 and 1876; Clark, Fairfield, Perry,
Hocking, Union and Madison. He was listed as a farmer, shoemaker, gunsmith and
constable. Margaret's obituary gives her brothers as Henry and Wesley and her
sister as Callie. Family tradition could be wrong and although the Wesley I've
researched is (on a marriage cert.) a son of Jonathan and Mary (Arbogast)
Hardman, there could be another Wesley of Champaign Co., OH. Margaret's death
info, by her eldest daughter, states parents unknown - - how that could be when
they gave surviving brothers (2) and a sister in the obit I can't figure out."
Rosemary appends a note which reads "The info in the "history" was given by
William and he would have probably known about three additional children,
especially since they were living at the time. Jonathan Hardman came from a
family of 13 children so these last 3 may have come from one of Jonathan's
brothers." - or any sibling.

Jonathan married Mary Arbogast on 16 Dec 1824 in Clark Co., Oh. Mary (daughter of Peter Arbogast and Sarah Henderson) was born about 1806 in Pendleton Co., Va/Wv; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Family group record of parents from Patricia (Crissman) Bebernick confirms
data but indicates marriage as 16 Dec. 1824 instead of about 1840, possibly
typo error intended to be 1842. Patricia (Allen) McSherry family group record
of 1987 confirms marriage as 16 Dec. 1824, Bk. 1-B, p. 89, Clark Co., OH.

Peter and Henry were twins.

Relocated to Champaign Co.,OH (Clark Co. since 1818) about 1811 with brothers,
David and Michael, Jr. by covered wagon. David went on to IN, about 1830.

Grave is marked with a stone from which an inscription was copied, see Forbes
and/or Hartmann records. Tombstone provides birth and death dates. Cemetery
is about 1 1/2 mi. N/E of South Vienna, OH, on old Columbus Rd. Estate
probated, Clark Co., OH, A-995, 1842.

See Power of Attorney from Peter and his wife Sarah authorizing Cornelius
Arbogast to dispose of their undivided share in real property in Crabbottom
inherited from his father Michael. Pendleton Co. Court Records, Deed Book 11,
Page 522. Names brothers John, Adam, Henry and George as well as his sister
Dorothy, wife of Jacob Gum as co-inheritors of the property. Copy in file.

Family group records of 4th great granddaughter, Patricia Crissman Bebernick
received 24 Sep 1992 giving day and month of birth for Peter and tracing her
ancestry to Peter.

Peter filed land claim 28 Jan. 1812 according to Patricia (Allen) McSherry who
cites records at General Land Office, Cincinnati, OH. See patent on land, 31
May 1816, Clark Co., OH, Deed Book V, p. 85.

Peter married Sarah Henderson about 1798 in Prb Pendleton Co, Va/Wv. Sarah was born about 1781 in Prb Augusta Co., Va; died on 18 Jul 1850 in Pleasant Twp., Clark Co., Oh; was buried in Pleasant Hill Cm, Clark Co., Oh. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

The above family group record includes 9 children, copy in file.

The reference on page 182 of the History of Clark County that husband Peter was
born and raised near Romney, WV may be an attempt to find the closest
large settlement to the Crabbottom Section of then Augusta Co., VA and later
Pendleton Co., VA\WV. It is well settled that Peter was born and raised in the
Crabbottom which is near present-day Blue Grass, Highland Co., VA.

Family group records from Patricia Crissman Bebernick on 25 Sept 1992 confirms
above information and adds substantially more data including History of
Pendleton Co., VA/WV p. 399 and reference to Clark Co., OH 1818 tax list ORPF,
p. 109, vol. 9, #3. Also that Peter is on muster roll of Capt. Wm. Janes
company of militia 6 Sep. 1794.

Cemetery is located 1 1/2 mi. northeast of South Vienna, Ohio on Old Columbus
Road. Birth and death from tombstone. Estate probated Clark Co., OH,
A-521-621.

BIRTH record from Evangelical Lutheran Church Records, Kehl, Baden, Germany

Records of daughter, Mary, indicate Michael had two wives. Considering all
available information, Mary was probably his first wife, Elizabeth his second.

Naturalized in Augusta Co., VA, 22 Aug 1770, #117, Chalkleys Abstracts, Vol.
I, p. 161.

Records of Dr. Dunham indicate the possibility of another son, Joseph, b. 1769
based on information from tax records, d. 1820 based on information in Morton's
Pendleton Co. History. The Peter Arbogsast who married Henry Arbogast's daughter also not placed.

Michael was baptized on 27 Sept 1732.

"Take Wimer Mountain road from Blue Grass, at the intersection with Hardscrabble road, continue north on Wimer Mountain, go approximately 3/10 mile. On the left will be a pond. The two rocks marking the graves are on the right side of the road. The graves sit almost in the fence row, if the grass is high its difficult to see them from the road. "

Michael married Mary E Samuels about 1758 in Prb Frederick Co, Va. Mary was born in 1736; died in 1772. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

History of Pendleton (Highland Co.), by Morton, indicate Mary as wife. First
public document found by Amanda Crawford Arbogast Forbes on wife of Michael is
a deed in 1791 from Michael and Elizabeth to one of his sons. Elizabeth's
signature appears on deed, documents, etc.

MILITARY: Accepted by DAR as Revolutionary War veteran, Yorktown Campaign,
1781. Capt. Peter Hull's Company of Cavalry. AAF's DAR Nat'l.#-484839.

See Deed Book 19, page 267, 130 acres on head of South Branch of Potowmackpatented to Michael Arbocust, undated, but adjacent entries indicate the year
was 1773; Augusta Co., VA. Also Deed Book 23, page 90, 17 Aug 1779, conveying
property to Michael Armingcost. This area is now Blue Grass, Highland Co., VA.
This information from, Records of Augusta Co., VA, Vol.III, by Chalkley, p.
531, 560. Page 195, citing Will Book VI, records appraisment of the estate of
Barnet Lance by Peter Hull, Jno. Gum, Sr. and Michael Armengash, 20 Sep 1791.
In other books, Michael's sons married into the Hull and Gum families, so they
were probably neighbors.

Only Mary's given name is on record, her full name has not been proven by documents at this time.
