Notes:

Death may have been November. Place of death was probably Pocahontas Co., WV.
Was found in 1880 census. There is no proof that Jacob was a son of Adam other
than histories of the area and records of descendants; not in father's will.
Note in Amanda's records from Wilma Harper that Jacob was a toll-gate keeper at
Durbin, WV.

According to "Pocahontas Co., WV." by Price, Jacob was an ardent supporter of
the Confererate cause and fled to Highland Co., VA. with his family in 1861,
returning in 1865 to start over again. See page 125 for this family.

Various research indicates; Children from 1850 Census of Randolph County,
VA/WV and 1880 Census of Pocahontas County, WV. The 1860 Census includes one
or more children in household which may be other children of this marriage.
Information on son, Adam Crawford, from Tommy Arbogast Huggins of
Hartford City, IN. Tommy (Helen Rex) is daughter of Joseph Lee Arbogast,
granddaughter of Adam Crawford Arbogast and gr-granddaughter of Jacob Hull
Arbogast.

Ref: WBH; names of children from Evelyn Beard (mother of WBH). Jacob had a
contract to help build the Staunton-Petersburg Turnpike. He kept post office
at Traveler's Repose 21 May 1856, followed by his daughter Eliza Jane 6 July
1856, then by George Burner 2 October 1866. His niece, Hulda, said that her
Uncle Jake inherited the property known as the Flenner place from his father
Adam. This is not mentioned in Adam's will, so perhaps he deeded the property
to Jake.
In 1858 Jacob sold 61 acres to Andrew Yeager, land described as being on
the Greenbrier (and according to accompanying drawing being on the south side
of the Greenbrier). Some calls are similar to those in a 100-acre grant to
Jakes's father Adam in 1811-1812. The land grant was described as being on the
East Fork of the Greenbrier, with Rogers and John Yeager to the south and
adjoining some land already owned by Adam. (The original land grant is in the
possession of Jesse Brown Beard Powell in 1995; the original of the 1858 deed
was in the possession of Jewell Yeager Arbogast in 1939.) Notes by WBH
indicate the 61 acres was conveyed by Andrew Yeager to his son Peter Dilley
Yeager. It appears that this 61 acres is across the Greenbrier from the
Traveler's Repose property, giving Andrew and his son Peter Dilley Yeager
control of both sides of the river at an important junction in the turnpike.
But perhaps it is the Inn property itself.
Lest the reader wonder why the locations are so hard to determine, the
land grant Point of Beginning is "a white oak and pine on a laurel bank" and
the 1858 deed Point of Beginning is a "beech and spruce pine" on the Greenbrier
River. The land is important, not only to the history of Adam's family, but
also to the history of the upper end of Pocahontas County. The Traveler's
Repose inn was the first overnight stage coach stop on the turnpike. Jesse
Powell believes that the farmhouse which belonged to Adam/Adam/Hulda and Mack
Yeager/Lucy Yeager is one of the two oldest remaining houses in upper
Pocahontas County.

Jacob married Elizabeth Wilson Bright on 27 Jun 1838 in Pocahontas Co., Va/Wv. Elizabeth was born on 13 Nov 1816 in Highland Co., Va; died on 18 May 1889 in Pocahontas Co., Wv; was buried in Back Mt. Cem, , Pocahontas Co., Wv. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Amanda Arbogast Forbes (AAF) research includes papers of Wilma Harper, 1850 and
1880 Census of Pendleton County, Court Records and County histories. AAF
Record "A".

Ref: WBH; tombstone marked 1760-1861 by WBH in about 1940. She later said that
1861 was her error. Granddaughter Hulda (Arbogast) Yeager said that he
died before she was born (in 1858). Was married near Hevener's Store.
Received second eyesight before he died accoding to legend.

Drafted and marched under Captain John McCoy and Lt. Joesph Gwin to West's Fort on West Fork of Monogahela, then down the river to Lowther's Fort, then lower yet to Nutter's Fort where he remained much of the three months...... Then finally to Coontie's Fort where troops were called in consequence of the Indians killing a white woman while she was spreading hemp in a field...... Volunteered 1778 as Indian Spy under same Captain and marched on to Warm Springs, whence he, together with George Hull, John Gum and Conrad Fleisher were ordered to Crabbottom to guard that locality and remained there the rest of his time....... At another time he marched from his home (now Highland) across the Greenbrier River to head of Seneca in pursuit of Indians.

Adam married Margaret "Peggy" Hull about 1778 in Crabbottom Sect., Augusta Co., Va. Margaret (daughter of Thomas Peter Hull and Susannah Margaretha Dieffenbach) was born in 1757 in Shenandoah Valley, Augusta Co., Va; died on 15 Jan 1820 in Pocahontas Co., Va/Wv; was buried in Yeager/Arbogast, Cem., Bartow, Pocahontas Co., wv. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Margaret Hull was born 1757 in Augusta County, which is now Highland and died 1/15/1820 in Traveler's Repose, Bath Co. Her parents were Thomas Peter Hull (Hohl) born 1706 in Germany and died 1776 in Augusta Co and Susannah Margaretha Dieffenbach born Oct. 1725 in Lancaster, Pa and died abt 1776 in Augusta Co, Va , They were married 11/25/1750 in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, Pa. He was a widower who had married in Germany and was a miller on the Susquehanna River before marrying Susannah.

Records of daughter, Mary, indicate Michael had two wives. Considering all
available information, Mary was probably his first wife, Elizabeth his second.

Naturalized in Augusta Co., VA, 22 Aug 1770, #117, Chalkleys Abstracts, Vol.
I, p. 161.

Records of Dr. Dunham indicate the possibility of another son, Joseph, b. 1769
based on information from tax records, d. 1820 based on information in Morton's
Pendleton Co. History. The Peter Arbogsast who married Henry Arbogast's daughter also not placed.

"Take Wimer Mountain road from Blue Grass, at the intersection with Hardscrabble road, continue north on Wimer Mountain, go approximately 3/10 mile. On the left will be a pond. The two rocks marking the graves are on the right side of the road. The graves sit almost in the fence row, if the grass is high its difficult to see them from the road. "

History of Pendleton (Highland Co.), by Morton, indicate Mary as wife. First
public document found by Amanda Crawford Arbogast Forbes on wife of Michael is
a deed in 1791 from Michael and Elizabeth to one of his sons. Elizabeth's
signature appears on deed, documents, etc.
