  1. 4.  Amos Kendall Colaw was born about 1856 in Il (son of William Benjamin Colaw and Sabina Gum); and died.

    Notes:

    Moved to KS in 1871. Pvt., F Co., 94th IL Vol. Inf., Col. Mc Nully,
    Commanding. Information from Ben W. Colaw of Belton, MO, as reported in the
    Colaw book referred to previously, as follows: A uncle Bill Colaw and maybe at
    some time a uncle Dyer Colaw from Illinois came for a visit. Uncle Amos of my
    father, John Harmon Colaw, lived in Chanute, IS, I believe lived to be 96 years
    old. My grnndfather, Benjamin Watters Colaw and Uncle Amos moved to Wilson
    Co., KS and lived across the road from each other. Amos' name inscribed on a
    bronze tablet at the Illinois Monument at Vicksburg, MS.

  1. 8.  William Benjamin Colaw was born on 30 Jan 1813 in Va; died on 30 Sep 1896 in Downs Twp., Mc Lean Co., Il; was buried in Hopewell Cem., Downs, Il.

    Notes:

    Date of death from, Our Family, The Colaws of Virginia and Points West, by
    Shirley Colaw Howell, 1985. This is the same William Benjamin Colaw, # 3520,
    who subsequently married Phebe Wood. Their son, George Allen Colaw, # 3519.
    William married 3rd, Sarah Ann Wilson, daughter of James and Barbara (Slafor)
    Wilson. The 8 children and their descendants of his marriage to Sabina Gum are
    from the above book. William is the son of George and Elizabeth (Wimer) Colaw,
    of Crabbottom, Highland Co., VA, and grandson of Daniel Colaw of York Co., PA.
    William was a farmer in Virginia, migrated to Downs Twp., Mc Lean Co., IL, in
    Dec. 1854, where he was a successful farmer and stockman. The family was
    buried in the Garr Cemetery, Old Town Twp., but were moved to Hopewell Cem. in
    Downs, IL. Shirley Colaw Howell has a good picture of William and his son,
    Amos, on page 16a of her book. She also has a picture of William in later
    years with with seven of his children.

    William married Sabina Gum on 20 Mar 1834 in Pendleton Co., Va/Wv. Sabina (daughter of Adam Gum and Susanna Lantz) was born in Aug 1814; died on 30 Jan 1859 in Mc Lean Co., Il; was buried in Hopewell Cem., Downs, Il. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
