there were 5 children born to this marriage, four were living in 1879, one,
Birdie, died 15 May 1875. John was a farmer, Section 24, P. O. Saybrook, 180
ac., born Mc Lean Co. 9 Sep 1844; lived on the farm, assisting his father. HIs
father died when John was 16, his mother having died three years previously.
John enlisted in 1861, G Co., 37th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He saw
service in Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana and Texas. Discharged at
Chicago, IL, 4 Oct 1864. He was School Director for 6 years, Collector for one
tern, and was School Trustee in 1879. He was also Constable of the Township
for 4 years.

Cemetery record extract gives month of birth as October.

KY, dau. Mary E. age 12 b. IL, son, Wm. H. age 10 b. IL, dau. Annie B. age 6 b.
IL, dau. Sarah E. age 3 b. IL, and one not reported.

John married Catherine Okey (Kate) Henderson on 27 Dec 1866 in Saybrook Twp., Mc Lean Co., Il. Catherine was born on 11 Dec 1847 in Maysville, Mason Co., Ky; died on 3 Aug 1924 in Moscow, Latah Co., Id; was buried in Greenwood Cem., Mc Lean Co., Il. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Extract of a newspaper article, probably a Saybrook, IL, paper, telling of the
reunion of all of William's 7 sons in 1906 or 1907. They had not been together
since 1861. It was held on New Years Day at the farm of Enos, one mile west of
Saybrook. A second gathering was held at the home of John L. on Jan 4th.
