parents names, fathers date of birth and year of death, mothers year of birth,
name of wife her birth and death dates and date of marriage. Papers are
unusually well done and list children, their spouse and other
descendants through 1992 births, including dates of birth and death, dates of
marriage, divorce, etc. Hereafter referred to as R. W. A. Papers of June 11,
1992. Children listed are Louella, Florence, Samuel, Bernard, Stewart, Margie
and Paul, including their descendants through about 1982.

Notes:

Photos of cemetery and gravesite on file. Arbogast reunion held at this site
annually on the Sunday before Labor Day. The 19th reunion was held
on Sept. 1, 1991. Property is now held by grandson, Roscoe Arbogast, Sr.
Descendants of Nichodemus and his brother, George Washington, including related
lines in attendance.

This site is on a ridge between Big and Little Beechy Creeks in Pleasant Twp.,
Clay Co., WV, formerly Nicholas Co. The George Washington Arbogast homestead is
on the next ridge down the Elk River (same side), between Little and Big
Sycamore Creeks.

Following the death of their father, Michael, these two brothers apparently
followed the nearby headwaters of the Elk River, down to this location, then
Nicholas Co., or Braxton Co.,VA, sometime during the period 1842-1847.

Some family records sent by R. W. Arbogast, Sr. June 11, 1992 indicate
Nichodemus' second wife was Margaret Ward and mother of Dock and Tecumptas, copy
in file, no documentation.

Nichodemus on 1850 Braxton Co., VA/WV census, age 25, with wife Margaret, age
22 and daugher Edith, age 1.

Nichodemus married Mary Simmons about 1848 in Braxton Heights, Salem (city), Virginia, USA. Mary (daughter of Michael Lum SIMMONS and Mary Ann Obrion) was born in 1828 in Nicholas Co., Va/Wv; died on 31 Aug 1870 in Union City, Clay, West Virginia, United States; was buried in Arbogast Family Cemetary, Elkhurst, Clay County, WV, USA. Infant Lemuel, born 1 May, 1859, not on 1860 census with this family; listed
with the Geo. Wash. Arbogast, Sr. family. Believe this is a census error or the
Geo. Wash. Arbogast family may have been caring for the infant.

1850 Census of Braxton Co., VA/WV indicates age as 22, name Margaret, with
husband Nichodemus, age 25 and daughter, Edith age 1, all born in VA. Correct
name may have been Mary Margaret Simmons or Nichodemus could have been married
earlier to a Margaret. Olive Reedy Wriston's records indicate a Mary Hanshaw
was Nichodemus' wife at the time Sarah D. Arbogast was born.

William married Minerva Ann Hanshaw. Minerva was born in 1846 in Nicholas County, Virginia now, West Virginia, United States; died in 1888 in West Virginia, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
