• Notes

  The Crabbottom area was part of Pendleton Co., VA and became part of Highland Co., VA when Highland was formed in 1847. Date of birth is from a tombstone and obituary which correspond with census records, but family bible indicates 1837. However, on all census records he is listed as two years older than his wife. John W. was Sheriff of Highland Co. from 1879 to 1890. He was a bugler in the Civil War, A Co., 14th VA Cav., CSA.
