"Through investments in timber land and real estate, Emory became a wealthy
man. He was sheriff of Highland County, VA, following his father, from 1889 to
1899 but moved to Marlinton, WV about 1900. He later moved to Winchester, KY
and about 1924, moved to Los Angeles, CA. He returned frequently to visit in
Highland County and Marlinton".
