Co, IL in 1838 but settled permanently in DeWitt Co., IL. She also indicates
that Henry did not leave a will and in the estate settlement, his grandson,
John Lewis shared in the estate since his (John Lewis' father), William, died
before Henry.

Received Land Warrants for service in War of 1812, but denied pension for
insufficient time, Jun 1870, Special Order 19,120. Transcript of letter in

Extract of a newspaper article, probably a Saybrook, IL, paper, telling of the
reunion of all of William's 7 sons in 1906 or 1907. They had not been together
since 1861. It was held on New Years Day at the farm of Enos, one mile west of
Saybrook. A second gathering was held at the home of John L. on Jan 4th.

his 12th year when he came to De Witt Co. with his parents. Farmer, stockman
and manufacturer of brick. Children listed in order of birth, and spouse where
known.

there were 5 children born to this marriage, four were living in 1879, one,
Birdie, died 15 May 1875. John was a farmer, Section 24, P. O. Saybrook, 180
ac., born Mc Lean Co. 9 Sep 1844; lived on the farm, assisting his father. HIs
father died when John was 16, his mother having died three years previously.
John enlisted in 1861, G Co., 37th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He saw
service in Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana and Texas. Discharged at
Chicago, IL, 4 Oct 1864. He was School Director for 6 years, Collector for one
tern, and was School Trustee in 1879. He was also Constable of the Township
for 4 years.

Military: One Hundred and Twenty-Second Illinois Infantry; participated in the siege of Vicksburg, the battles of Chattanooga and Kenesaw Mountain and many other battles and skirmishes in the Civil War, being under General Logan, and with Sherman in his famous march to the sea. He was severely wounded in the battle of Kenesaw Mountain and languished in the hospital for four months. After serving four years with great credit to himself and good to his country, he received an honorable discharge,

his family to Audrain Co., MO. In Feb 1884 Henry moved to Hand Co., SD, taking
the stock overland. The rest of the family came by train in April. On 19 Nov
1884 he filed on SE-5-109-69, in Mondamin Twp. Henry and his wife are buried
in the Mondamin Cemetery, about 30 miles southwest of Miller, SD.

of Arrowsmith, IL, to Amanda Arbogast Forbes in 1940, tells of Susan and John's
living in Conway Springs, KS, participating in the Oklahoma land opening and
getting their 160 ac. on the Cottonwood River just across from Guthrie, OK.
They lived there for several years in a sod house, later a frame house, then
moved back to Farmer City, IL, in 1895 where John died a few years later.
She and John had an adopted son. The article mentions Susan later married G.
F. Mc Bride, whom she survived. It concludes with her plans of going with her
brother, John Muir, to visit with relatives in Oregon and California, and they
will also stop in Guthrie, OK, where she will call on friends.

one half miles northwest of Farmer City. An older brother, Amos L. Arbogast
learned the trade, and with another younger brother, all three worked together.
