WILSON ARBOGAST, president of the Arbogast & Bastian packing house, of Allentown; president of the Board of Education and president of the Board of Trustees of the Good Shepherd Home, was born in 1851, at Freeburg, Snyder County, Pa., the son of Jonathan and Catharine (Bugler) Arbogast. He was educated in the schools of his native township, a preparatory academy, and the Keystone State Normal School, at Kutztown, Pa., where he was graduated in 1875. During this period of his career he taught four terms of school in Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County. In 1876 he removed to Martins Creek, Northampton County, where he continued the profession of teaching and also conducted a general store. Selling out, in 1882, he engaged in the provision business at Phillipsburg, N. J. In 1887 he formed an association with Morris C. Bastian, under the firm name of Arbogast & Bastian, which organization was the foundation of the present house of the Arbogast & Bastian Co. The aggressive and farsighted men who compose this firm have not only erected a model packing house of great size, but have developed an enormous and profitable trade which extends throughout all the eastern states. Mr. Arbogast served three terms as a school director and one term as a councilman, and in 1911 was elected a school controller of the city. He takes an active Interest in charity enterprises in the community. He is a member of the Lutheran Church and of Barger Lodge, F. and A. M. In 1870 he married Emily, daughter of Charles and Mary Haas.
