Guy Arbogast Obituary



Guy Arbogast, 79, of Elkins, passed away Saturday, July 6 in Morgantown, after a recent decline in health.

Guy was born in Cherry Grove to the late Don and Icie (Teter) Arbogast. He is survived by his wife of over 32 years, Karen (Wolfe) Arbogast, of Elkins, and his ex-wife, Shirley Gilbert of Manassas, Va. He is also survived by one brother, Carl Arbogast of Ohio; two sons, Sheldon Guy Arbogast, and wife, Linda, of Manassas, Va., and J.C. Arbogast, of Elkins; and one daughter: Sherri (Judy) Sharps, of Middletown, Md. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Matthew Guy Arbogast of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Alan Arbogast and wife, Kereshmeh of Bristow, Va., Ashley (Wyatt) Elza and husband, Jared, of Fairmont, and Elliott Arbogast, of Elkins; and three great-grandsons, Kiyan and Kai Arbogast of Bristow, Va., and Gavin Guy Arbogast of Murfreesboro, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Kay Judy. He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Bonnie, Elva, Cynthia, Rosa Lee and Betty Jean; and five brothers, Delbert, Hoy, Coy (Bud), Dreamus and Earl.

Guy worked for over 50 years between Dick Benson Lumber and David T. Judy Lumber Company in Belington as an office manager and lumber grader. His love was with his family as his parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren's wants and needs always came before his. Guy also loved his West Virginia Mountaineers and was the Atlanta Braves No. 1 Fan long before TBS brought them to Elkins. Guy was an avid fast-pitch softball player who, along with his brother and best friend Earl, won many tournaments. He also coached the Elkins Church of the Nazarene softball team to two Nazarene League Championships, and led the Elkins Church of the Nazarene youth basketball team to the Nazarene State Title in 1985 with a win over Wheeling in the final. Anyone who was fortunate enough to have known Guy knows how special and caring he was, and the blessing he became to all the lives he touched.

Mr. Arbogast's remains were cremated. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating.
