MARRIAGE: From Pendleton Co. Marriage Records. In records, groom is recorded
as M. Bennett (age 20, son of M. & S. Bennett) and the bride as A. Arbogast
(age 21, daughter of E. & S. Arbogast). The 1850, 60, 70 and 80 Census and,
The History of Pendleton Co., WV, by Morton (under Bennett) all indicate that
this marriage was between Marion Taylor Bennett and Agnes (Angegline) Arbogast.
The 1850, 60 and 70 Census lists Marion T. Bennett; the 1880 Census lists
Taylor. Death Records of children use both Marion and Taylor. The 1850 Census
recorded Agnes as Angeline, otherwise all records use Agnes or Aggie. Marion
Taylor Bennett was a son of Martin Bennett and Sidena Arbogast Bennett, MRIN
22, so Agnes and Marion were first cousins.

Additional confirmation and complete genealogy on her line from granddaughter,
Janet (Perry) Sheldon a serious and competent researcher who provides
substantial documentation. Bert was a brakeman then a conductor for the New
York Central Railroad for 17 years. During WW I he was in the Army with the
American Expeditionary Forces in Europe from April 27, 1918 to August 7, 1919.
His tour of duty involved recovering dead and wounded from the battlefield and
transporting them to hospitals. This experience was so devastating to him that
he never fully recovered. As a result he spent his last years in the Veteran's
Hospital in Beckley, WV suffering from severe post traumatic stress syndrome.
Obituary lists survivors as wife, Harriet; daughters, Mrs. Maxine Stallworth of
Atlanta, GA, and Mrs. Lois Perry of St. Albans, WV; sister, Mr. Leona Conner of
Columbus, OH; brothers, Dave of Charleston, WV, Joe in Florida, Howard of

Jackson in Chicago. J. A. was an attorney at Akron, OH, for some time. He
was living at Larew, WV, in 1923 operating The Heather Run Coal Co. there in
Preston County. He gave up his law practice due to his health in about 1913,
moved to WV to work outside. His wife, unnamed, died about 1908, he was still a
widower in 1923. He remembers his grandfather, Cornelius, quite well, and
recalls his talking about moving to OH from VA in a covered wagon. He lists
the living children of Allen as follows: Johnson A.; Etna Pence, 123 Arch St.,
Akron, OH; Charles; Rosewood, OH, Dora (last name not clear-looks like Stella)
Pomona, CA; and, Roland I, St. Louis. J. A's. children are as shown using
Arbogast for his wife's last name until we know her correct name.

Have assumed this J.A. Arbogast is Allen Johnson because his letter
gives addresses for all the other living children. Allen J. in 1880 census, so
he probably switched his two first names to Johnson Allen Arbogast, or J. A.
