Listed as Maude E. Halterman, survivor of brother, Thomas D. in Sep 1932. See

Reconciliation of all children of Adam and Elizabeth Arbogast indicates strong
probability that this child is the Amanda E. on birth record, Manda E. on 1880
census and Maude E. Halterman on brother, Thomas D. Arbogast, obituary. There
were 5 Highland Co. births and 9 Lewis Co. births recorded for a total of 14.
Census of Lewis Co., WV 1880 indicates 13 children not including Henry, born
1973 and who probably died before the census, thus not included in Thomas D.'
obituary either; for a total of 14 children. Obituary lists 12 surviving
siblings including Maude E. Halterman (a.k.a. Amanda E. and Manda E.).
Assuming Wm. M. as well as Henry died before the obituary, this would also
account for 14 total children. This is my best estimate from the information
available - C. J. Eades, 5 Mar 1992.

1900 Census of Lewis Co., WV; on census with husband. Lewis Co., WV, Marriage
Record 18 Apr 1892; Amanda E. Arbogast, age 20, born Highland Co., VA and James
W. Halterman, age 24, born Lewis Co. Place of birth of Amanda differs on
birth record from that indicated on marriage record.

1900 Lewis Co. census has Amanda and James in household of Sarah Vandevender,
a widow; their aunt. Obit of brother John, Mrs. Amdanda Halterman, 1937,

confluence with the Elk River, near Indore, Pleasant Twp., Clay Co., WV. County
road # 12 traverses Big Sycamore Creek many times from Indore down to the Elk
River, then down the Elk along the old B&O railroad track, past the old train
station to Little Sycamore Creek, then up Little Sycamore Creek past Warfield to
County Road # 1 near Indore. Eldorado is at the mouth of Big Sycamore Creek.

County Road # 12-1 runs from Warfield to near the Homestead on County
Road # 12, completing the circle of roads # 12 and # 12-1. Supplies were
shipped from Charleston up the Elk River on the B&O railroad to the train
station and then by wagon up road # 12 to the homestead. Some supplies were
purchased at Warfield, the nearest settlement, and at Indore, a larger
settlement but somewhat further away. The road to Indore was better than the
road to Warfield. Information from uncle Joseph Monroe Arbogast by
conversation and letters. The roads through this area are not improved. Many
are now only logging, gas pipeline and other utitity maintenance roads.

Deputy Sheriff of Clay Co. for brother, George Washington Arbogast, Jr.,
"Wash", Sheriff. Farming was primary occupation. As Deputy, a member of posse
to arrest Jesse James type gang. Shoot-out resulted in arrests, several
wounded, one member of gang killed. Details in Court papers of Clay Co., WV,
for Aug 1899, copy in file of Joseph Monroe Arbogast. Papers contain signature

Andrew could not have been born prior to 1792. In the fall of 1826 Andrew and
Peter Arbogast (a brother-in-law, married Andrew's sister) and their families
left Virginia for Ohio via Pennsylvania. 1830 census, Seneca Co., Hopewell
Twp., OH,and on 1850 census, Waterville, Lucas Co., OH. In May 1865 Andrew
