2206 | From family group record by brother Leslie H. Arbogast and story with photo of Arlie and Adis on their 50th wedding anniversary, 30 Apr. 1977 in Hershey, PA. Arlie indicates he was born in Barbour Co. like his parents George Washington Arbogast and Roxanna R. Row. His parents were married in 1888. It is probably a typo that his father is called Geo. Wash., not Washington Sherman as indicated by his brother Leslie although the article was submitted by him. More likely his fathers name was George Washington Sherman Arbogast, not unusual in the Arbogast line, and each son shortened the name for everyday use. Arlie continues that his father was born near Belington and lived there until his death. Arlie attended public school through all grades at Junior, WV, married Adis in 1927 when she came to Junior to teach. They lived in Junior 21 years where their children, Connie and Joe were born and attended grade school. They went to Belington High School. Arlie worked in and around the mines until work got so slack it was impossible to make a living and send our children to college, which they were determined to do. From their church paper they learned that the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA needed houseparents. They lived and worked there until retirement in 1963 and continued to live there at the time of the article in 1977. Article is from Centennial Book of Barbour County, West Virginia Room, Univ. of WV, Morgantown, WV. | Arbogast, Arlie J. (P1322)

2249 | From family group record of Patricia McSherry confirming data from Amanda Arbogast Forbes. Year of birth and death from Patricia (Allen) McSherry's family group record of 1987 in file. Additional information and confirmation from THE ROSEMARY SUMMERS PICKETT PAPERS citing "20th Century HIstory of Springfield and Clark County, Ohio" by Wm. A. Rockel, 1908 on the first nine children given to the writer by the son, William H. Hardman. Rosemary reports on three possible additional children named Henry, Margaret (m. 1873 to John Cylvester Ralster and d. 1922) and Callie who married James C. Leechman. These possible additional three children are from Patricia McSherry of New Orleans who says in her letter to Rosemary on 18 June 1991 - "My ancestor Margaret has a question mark because I can't find her on a census, etc. Found a lot re Wesley thru court records. (He is listed as a brother in Margaret's obituary. He is dead and had no children from three marriages. Jonathan W. or W. Jonathan Hardman/Herdman moved his family thru at least six Ohio counties between 1824 and 1876; Clark, Fairfield, Perry, Hocking, Union and Madison. He was listed as a farmer, shoemaker, gunsmith and constable. Margaret's obituary gives her brothers as Henry and Wesley and her sister as Callie. Family tradition could be wrong and although the Wesley I've researched is (on a marriage cert.) a son of Jonathan and Mary (Arbogast) Hardman, there could be another Wesley of Champaign Co., OH. Margaret's death info, by her eldest daughter, states parents unknown - - how that could be when they gave surviving brothers (2) and a sister in the obit I can't figure out." Rosemary appends a note which reads "The info in the "history" was given by William and he would have probably known about three additional children, especially since they were living at the time. Jonathan Hardman came from a family of 13 children so these last 3 may have come from one of Jonathan's brothers." - or any sibling. | Hardman, Jonathan William (P17380)
