Mentions house where Evans lived about a mile from the town of Louisa. Page 70 ...apparently Vaughn claimed ownership of the landand the house, deposition attached to the suit by Gordon Burgess says Dr William Evans moved from the premisis in controversy to Louisa in 1829 and continued to live in town during 1830--- the suit then mentions a deed of Dr William Evansto his son William Evans and proved that in the spring William Evans was living wiht him. Lawson Evans the grandson of Evans cultivated the premisis in question.The field cultivated are included inincluded in the deed from Dr Evans to his son under an agreement With William Evans . Wm. Evans was the main support of the family of his fatherwhen the father went away in the year 1830 and was absent a considerable legnth of time. | 6477 | Letter from Ethel to Ralph Arbogast, 19 Jan 1939, concerning the first Arbogast Family Trees, indicates she had it done in Tulsa, OK, where she lived. The original was sent to Emery Arbogast in Farmland, IN, for distribution to anyone who wanted a copy. Ethel lived at R# 8 Tulsa. Ethel indicated there was an old tree which was drawn by hand at their reunions at Farmland, IN. Ethel, and three other cousins worked to some consensus regarding how to spell names, etc, then she hired a man in Tulsa to draw a new tree which has been distributed widely among Arbogast descendants across the U.S., measuring about 2 ft. by 3ft. Later her cousins Marjorie (Arbogast) Shrack of Alexandria, IN, and Frances Arbogast of Indianapolis had another family tree drawn on their branch of the original tree, starting with their grandparents, Sandford A. Arbogast and Isabella Hays. This tree is a little smaller than the one Ethel had drawn. | Brooks, Ethel (P6336)

| 6478 | Letter in file from J. A. Arbogast dated 14 Aug 1923 to his cousin May Henry Jackson in Chicago. J. A. was an attorney at Akron, OH, for some time. He was living at Larew, WV, in 1923 operating The Heather Run Coal Co. there in Preston County. He gave up his law practice due to his health in about 1913, moved to WV to work outside. His wife, unnamed, died about 1908, he was still a widower in 1923. He remembers his grandfather, Cornelius, quite well, and recalls his talking about moving to OH from VA in a covered wagon. He lists the living children of Allen as follows: Johnson A.; Etna Pence, 123 Arch St., Akron, OH; Charles; Rosewood, OH, Dora (last name not clear-looks like Stella) Pomona, CA; and, Roland I, St. Louis. J. A's. children are as shown using Arbogast for his wife's last name until we know her correct name. Have assumed this J.A. Arbogast is Allen Johnson because his letter gives addresses for all the other living children. Allen J. in 1880 census, so he probably switched his two first names to Johnson Allen Arbogast, or J. Halterman on brother, Thomas D. Arbogast, obituary. There were 5 Highland Co. births and 9 Lewis Co. births recorded for a total of 14. Census of Lewis Co., WV 1880 indicates 13 children not including Henry, born 1973 and who probably died before the census, thus not included in Thomas D.' obituary either; for a total of 14 children. Obituary lists 12 surviving siblings including Maude E. Halterman (a.k.a. Amanda E. and Manda E.). Assuming Wm. M. as well as Henry died before the obituary, this would also account for 14 total children. This is my best estimate from the information available - C. J.
