- From THE ROSEMARY SUMMERS PICKETT PAPERS in file. John was a farmer. In 1863
a building collapsed on him and he was never able to work thereafter. There is
no record of his ever marrying. Shortly after his death there were rumors that
he died from foul play according to news article in the Springfield Republic
newspaper on 31 Mar 1877 and 2 Apr 1877. A coroners inquest ruled he died from
natural causes. He died intestate and on 27 Apr 1877, A. W. Mumper, John W.
Baldwin and Charles Hause (his brother-in-law) were appointed administrators of
