Mary (Selter) Arbogast, sent by O.W.Arbogast, Jr. Hazel is d/o of Hank and
Nell (Bowman) Selter. Grandparents, John and Amelia (Shafer) Bowman and Joseph
and Harriett Selter. Grew up in Kansas, then to Oklahoma Territory, then back
to Sedan, KS, for high school. Met Burl while visiting in Bighart, OK, now
Barnsdall in June, 1917. Burl came to OK in 1912 for a visit with his sister
Nora Yates, and found work in the oil fields at Tulsa. Burl enlisted in
U.S.Army 13 Sep 1916, 3rd Engineer Train, 36th Division, serving on the Mexican
border. Discharged 16 Feb 1917 and went back to work in the oil field. On 13
Aug 1917 called back into service in WW I. In St. Michael offensive 12-18 Sep,
1918, and Meuse Argonne offensive 26 Sep - 11 Nov 1918, served in occupation
and discharged 18 Jun 1919. Served in 36th Div., U.S.Army. Worked in oil
drilling in OK & So.America, bought the Dan Woodworth farm at Sedan, KS. Lists
chilren and grandchildren. Hazel and Burl celebrated their 65th wedding
anniversary in Sedan at son, Earl's, house. No dates of death given for Burl
or Hazel.
