Dorothy Carol (Ryder) Arbogast Obituary



Dorothy Carol Arbogast, age 79, of Durbin, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at her home.

Born March 2, 1931, at Hightown, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late John Clarence and Minnie Mae Mullenax Ryder.

Dorothy attended Big Field Old Farm School at Cheat Mountain and Durbin and Green Bank schools. She was employed as a cook at Green Bank Elementary School, sold Avon and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, sewing, crossword puzzles, reading the Bible and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members.

She attended Frank Church of the Nazarene and Durbin Church of the Brethren and was a Christian lady all her life. She had a great love for God and her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura M. Arbogast; an infant grandson, Cody L. Tacy; three sisters, Virginia Arbogast, Mary Kathryn Louk and Lola McCarter; and two brothers, Delbert Ryder and Leonard Ryder.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Green Arbogast; five sons, James E. Arbogast, and friend, Betsy, Garry L. Arbogast, and wife, Millie, Thomas A. Arbogast, and friend, Sandy, Glenn W. Arbogast, and wife, Pam, all of Durbin, and Lewis R. Arbogast, and wife, Diana, of Bartow; three daughters, Linda K. Arbogast, Carol M. Tracy, and husband, Randy, all of Elkins, and Diana L. Matheny, and husband, Larry, of Hurricane; a special son, Kenny Arbogast, and wife, Barb, of Martinsburg; 11 grandchildren, Beth Vandevander, Lewis Ray Arbogast II, Michael Arbogast, Davey Carr, Tammy Shreve, Jennifer Matheny, Eric Matheny, Erica Smith, Thomas Arbogast II, Stephanie Arbogast and Andy Arbogast; 17 great-grandchildren, Paige, Kurt, Elizabeth, Sally, Jacob, David, Crystal, Hunter, Collin, Evan, Madison, Sophia, MaKayla, Tyler, Brandon, Kayley and Matthew; a brother, Samuel Ryder, of Greece; a special niece, Nelliue "Sis" Young, and husband, Kenny, of Elkins; and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Thursday, September 16, from 6 -9 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale. Funeral service is Friday, September 17, 2 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home with Revs. Donnie Curry and David Rittenhouse officiating. Interment will be in Arbovale Cemetery.
