The Leavenworth Echo - July 10, 1914FATAI AUTO ACCIDENT LAST SUNDAY MORNINGSon of Prominent Peshastin Fruit Grower Killed Near Henry RanchFrank Arbogast, the 18 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Arbogast, of Peshastin, met a horrible death about 4 o'clock Sunday morning, when the Overland car which he was driving went over the grade. The accident occurred near the Tom Henry ranch, which is within a few miles of his home. The machine turned over several times and it is believed that the steering wheel must have struck his chest, as it was there that he received internal injuries which resulted in his death. The other occupants of the car, Miss Mabel Reeves, Earl Jones and Lewis Arbogast were thrown out when the car left the road but escaped serious injuries.The party were on their way home from Waterville, where they had spent the Fourth of July and had not been to bed that night, and it is quite possible that the unfortunate young man, being in an exhausted condition dropped off to sleep for several seconds. The tire tracks show that the machine did not turn when it came to the first curve this side of Tom Henry's place near Dryden, but went straight ahead and down the steep grade.Immediately after the accident the father of the boy, accompanied by Mr. Henry and Rev. J. 0. Hawk, placed the boy in an auto and rushed him to Wenatchee, where Dr. McCoy and Dr. Parker, of Cashmere, did all in their power to save the suffering youth, but their efforts were in vain and he died within an hour after his arrival at the hospital.Frank Arbogast was well known in this city where he attended school last year and had many friends. Hetook a prominent part in athletics and was a member of the local high school basket ball team this last year. He was a most excellent young man, never indulging in drinking, smoking or other bad habits, and his sudden death was a great shock to all his acquaintances throughout the valley.The funeral services were held from the home at Peshastin Tuesday after noon, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Peshastin cemetery. His school mates from Leavenworth attended the funeral in a body. He was a most exemplary young man and universally esteemed by all who knew him.
