He was born Oct 9, 1912 in WV and ha lived in the area for the past 12 years. Mr Starks is survived by his widow, a daughter, Mrs Ethelyn Groh, port Huron; three sons, Roger A. and Samuel G. Starks both of Smith Creek, and Pvt Joey C. Starks, stationed in Washington State. A Granddaughter, Connie Groh, Port Huron, seven brothers, Clyde and Bud and Russell all of Avoca. Frederick Starks of Canton, Ohio and Ike, George all of WV. two sisters and several nieces and nephews. The remains will be in the Arthur Smith Funeral Home after 1 pm Sunday. Services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday in the funeral home with Rev. D. Aniel Bills, pastor of Smith Creek Community Church, officiation. Burial will be in Mt Pleasent Cemetery,. Alvin Starks, Virgil Lambert, Allen Gainer, Oscar Starks, Ford Cogan, and Chuck Coleman will be pallbearers. | arbo |

Fred of Canton Ohio, half sister Mrs Iona Albright and Mrs Martha Kisner both of Resiterstown, MD Mrs Margaret Rider of Avoca, Mrs Rose Crites of Four States, WV Mrs Wilma Thompson of Thornwood, Nealie at home, stepsister, Mrs Virginia Simmons of Four States. Services will be 2 pm Sunday in Thornwood Church with the Rev Edward Markley officiating. Burial will be in Starks family Cemetery Thornwood. Adam served in the Civil War and is believed to be buried by the railroad grade in Bartow, WV. As a young man, Robert travelled to Missouri and back in a covered wagon with his parents. Mary and Robert lived on Elk Mt. until 1917, at Phillipi, WV, 1917-1919, then moved to a log cabin in Winterburn. In 1922 they bought 44 ac. in Thornwood from Roy Houchin, cleared the land and built a house from an older house of Joe King. Robt. worked for H. M. Hickman and Walter Gutshall as a sawyer. Robt. was also a blacksmith with his shop at home in Thornwood. In 1931 Robt. married and had a second family with Carrie Slayton Vandevander. Adam b.1829. Hannah b.1832 Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany. Other children, Pauline Virginia b. Aug 1919, d. Sep 1919, and Johnny Lee b. 5 Sep 1903, d. 5 Nov 1903. |

Lifetime resident of Bartow and Thornwood and was a member of the Thornwood Community Church. Services were held in Church at 1 pm with the Reb William Vandevander and the Reb Harold Sweeker officiating. Internment followed in the Lambert Cemetery at Elk Mt. | arbo |
