His place probably abutted the lands of his father and brother, Michael. It may be possible that he lived 2-3 miles from his fathers home, on Franks Run. His son, Daniel, lived at this location. Carl Arbogast, son of Abraham Arbogast lived there in 1971, per Amanda Forbes. Had 9 children. See extensive research and records of Amanda Crawford Arbogast Forbes. Deed of heirs filed in Pendleton Co., 1844 gives names of children. Died intestate. His dates are from a family bible in possession of Larry Roberts. Bible was kept by Emanuel or some of his family who went to Illinois. |

Following the death of his father, George and his brother Nichodemus apparently followed the headwaters of the Elk River down into Nicholas Co., VA/WV or Braxton Co., VA/WV (now Clay Co.) to the Beechy and Sycamore Creeks area. Nichodemus settled the Beechy Creek area, George the adjacent Sycamore Creek area sometime during the period 1842-1847. DEATH: Living, 1880 census. In 1860 valued real property at $500 & personal property at $385; in 1870, $1000 and $423. Substantial estate considering post-war economic conditions. Pendleton Co., VA marriage bond dated 5 Mar 1842, signed by Geo. Arbogast and Levi Reed, consent of father, Washington Reed and mother Edy Arbogast. Witness, Esau Ketterman. |

George age 41 born OH, Sarah, Wife age 33 born OH, Merta daughter, age 11 born OH and Gurna, son age 3 born OH. According to Roremary Pickett notes from "The History of Hardin Co., OH" Warner, Beers & Co, Chicago, 1883, there were 3 children, 2 living, Gurney and Leander, Charlie is deceased. According to Rosemary's extract of the Hardin Co. History, George was one year old when his parents came to Roundhead Twp. He recieved only a limited education and enlisted in G Company, 4th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in 1861 and served 4 years and 21 days. Taken prisoner at Spottsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864 he was sent to Andesonville Prison, Georgia where he remained until 1 Mar 1865. He was unable to walk due to being so worn and starved. He was honorably discharged at Annapolis, Maryland on 21 Jun 1865. After the war he finished his apprenticeship in carpentry and was engaged in contracting and building with good success. In 1873 he bought a farm of 40 acres and was clearing the land at his leisure, having cleared 30 acres by 1883.
