Daughter Rachel said that Sarah was closely related to the last President Harrison. Sarah had a cancer on the forehead, removed by her son Dr. Peter Dilley Arbogast, but it came back near the eye. Birth records of Adam's and Sarah's family are from a Bible record by daughter Hulda. Records were written by Eliza Ann (Yeager) Arbogast and Van Buren Arbogast, said Sarah's daughter Eliza Evaline Arbogast McElwee, 29 May 1943. WBH gave death date as 1912. However, the 1919 date is more consistent with memories of her great granddaughter Mildred Yeager (b 1904) and great niece Jesse Beard Powell (b 1915) who remembered her well. Ref: Jim and Rita Wooddell records, January 1994, found a court order in Pocahontas Co. appointing Hezekiah Simmons guardian of Sarah, orphan of Robert McDonald and Peachey; the date was October 1857 and Adam Arbogast was his security. The marriage certificate for Adam and Sarah gave her parents as Morrison and Peachy McDonald. In 1850 Morrison and his second wife (Esma?) were living in Harrison Co., VA, with four younger children and Sarah, aged 13. Additional information from "Our Family, The Colaws of Virginia and Points West" by Shirley Jeanee (Colaw) Howell on year of birth of Mary Ann, marriage bond dated 9 Oct 1847, 1850 census for North Fork Hills, Pendleton Co. and 1860 census for Mouth of Seneca, Pendleton Co. 1850 census includes Michael, Mary Ann, Frances and Emily. Also in household is Edith Ketterman Arbogast age 50, Michael's mother, Isaac Hinkle age 68, Christina Waybright age 8, and Amos C. Waybright age 6. 1860 census includes only Edith Ketterman Arbogast age 65, Michael Henkle age 85, Christina Waybright age 17, Cain Helmick age 27, and Jason Harper age 37. From the data above and notes under Michael it would appear that Michael and Mary Ann went to Iowa shortly after the 1850 census. Michael drove the oxe and wagon west from Iowa in 1853. Since his mother Edith Ketterman Arbogast was still in Pendleton Co. in 1860, it appears she joined her sons family in Iowa after 1860. Birth, marriages, children and death recorded in a family bible kept by Emanuel or his children now in possession of Larry Roberts at Hannibal, MO. Data confirmed by 1850 Highland Co., VA Census, by Matheny, pp. 58 and 59.; Marriages of Pendleton Co., VA 1788-1853, by Mary Harter, p. 2 and History of Highland Co., VA, by Morton. Emanuel also named in deed of heirs of George Arbogast, his father, Pendleton Co., Deed Book 14, pp. 173 and 174, 1844. Other recorded events indicate Emanuel was one of the first justices of Highland Co. when it was formed in 1847. Appointed school commissioner in 1853. Appraised his brother, Daniel Arbogast's estate in 1845. He was influential in organizing the Methodist Church at Dry Run on land given earlier by the descendants of his grandfather, Michael. In 1847 Emanuel freed his slaves including Sam, who belonged to his father-in-law, Isaac Gum; see Deed Book 1, p. 37, Highland Co., VA. Emanuel and Isabella deed land to trustees of M.E. Church, Deed Book 2, p. 104, 23 Jun 1853, Highland Co., VA. Emanuel and Isabella deed land to Ben Ami Hansel, 32ac, Deed Book 2, p. 388, 6 Aug 1855, Highland Co., VA. Grandparents, John and Amelia (Shafer) Bowman and Joseph and Harriett Selter. Grew up in Kansas, then to Oklahoma Territory, then back to Sedan, KS, for high school. Met Burl while visiting in Bighart, OK, now Barnsdall in June, 1917. Burl came to OK in 1912 for a visit with his sister Nora Yates, and found work in the oil fields at Tulsa. Burl enlisted in U.S.Army 13 Sep 1916, 3rd Engineer Train, 36th Division, serving on the Mexican border. Discharged 16 Feb 1917 and went back to work in the oil field. On 13 Aug 1917 called back into service in WW I. In St. Michael offensive 12-18 Sep, 1918, and Meuse Argonne offensive 26 Sep - 11 Nov 1918, served in occupation and discharged 18 Jun 1919. Served in 36th Div., U.S.Army. Worked in oil drilling in OK & So.America, bought the Dan Woodworth farm at Sedan, KS. Lists chilren and grandchildren.
