8801 | Per Mildred Johnston, Robt. is the son of Adam Starks and Hannah (Shaffer) Starks who was born in Germany. Adam served in the Civil War and is believed to be buried by the railroad grade in Bartow, WV. As a young man, Robert travelled to Missouri and back in a covered wagon with his parents. Mary and Robert lived on Elk Mt. until 1917, at Phillipi, WV, 1917-1919, then moved to a log cabin in Winterburn. In 1922 they bought 44 ac. in Thornwood from Roy Houchin, cleared the land and built a house from an older house of Joe King. Robt. worked for H. M. Hickman and Walter Gutshall as a sawyer. Robt. was also a blacksmith with his shop at home in Thornwood. In 1931 Robt. married and had a second family with Carrie Slayton Vandevander. Adam b.1829. Hannah b.1832 Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany. Grave is marked with a stone from which an inscription was copied, see Forbes and/or Hartmann records. Tombstone provides birth and death dates. Cemetery is about 1 1/2 mi. N/E of South Vienna, OH, on old Columbus Rd. Estate probated, Clark Co., OH, A-995, 1842. See Power of Attorney from Peter and his wife Sarah authorizing Cornelius Arbogast to dispose of their undivided share in real property in Crabbottom inherited from his father Michael. Pendleton Co. Court Records, Deed Book 11, Page 522. Names brothers John, Adam, Henry and George as well as his sister Dorothy, wife of Jacob Gum as co-inheritors of the property. Copy in file. Family group records of 4th great granddaughter, Patricia Crissman Bebernick received 24 Sep 1992 giving day and month of birth for Peter and tracing her ancestry to Peter. Peter filed land claim 28 Jan. 1812 according to Patricia (Allen) McSherry who cites records at General Land Office, Cincinnati, OH. 8805 | Peter Pelham "Pelly" Daniel, son of Sydnor Daniel (born about 1836, died about 1881) and Elizabeth Jane "Bettie" Cordle (born July 1838, died 18 December 1909) was born in Brunswick County, Virginia on 1 June 1871 and died of a celebral hemorrage on 19 September 1923. Peter married Cora Louise Pritchett, daughter of David Pritchett (Civil War soldier) and Susan Louise Daniel, on 18 January 1898. Cora was born on 24 November 1876 and died on 26 August 1909. Children of this marriage were as follows: 1) Preston Pelham Daniel (born 21 January 1899, died 7 March 1968) married Dossie Virginia Williams (born 10 May 1900, died 18 October 1964). 2) Harvey McCadden Daniel (born 10 September 1861, died 15 February 1966) married Mildred Irene Rapier (born 12 December 1908, died 11 August 2004). 3) Lillie Lucille Daniel married Joseph B. McCool. 4) Mabel Virginia Daniel (born 3 November 1905, died 6 May 1991) married George T. Wilkerson (26 November 1909, died 10 August 1992). 5) Esther Lee Daniel (born 4 February 1908, died 7 April 1980) married Abner Lee Wilkerson (born 2 October 1904, died 26 October 1977). Preston Pelham Daniel married Cora Louise Pritchett on 18 Jan 1898, Brunswick CO, VA. They lived in the Red Oak Dist of Brunswick. 8814 | Photos of cemetery and gravesite on file. Arbogast reunion held at this site annually on the Sunday before Labor Day. The 19th reunion was held on Sept. 1, 1991. Property is now held by grandson, Roscoe Arbogast, Sr. Descendants of Nichodemus and his brother, George Washington, including related lines in attendance. This site is on a ridge between Big and Little Beechy Creeks in Pleasant Twp., Clay Co., WV, formerly Nicholas Co. The George Washington Arbogast homestead is on the next ridge down the Elk River (same side), between Little and Big Sycamore Creeks. Following the death of their father, Michael, these two brothers apparently followed the nearby headwaters of the Elk River, down to this location, then Nicholas Co., or Braxton Co.,VA, sometime during the period 1842-1847.
